Williams Guard Defences Countering the Set Over
Williams Guard Defences
Countering the Set Over
The final way your opponent will try to defend the Williams Guard is by stepping or jumping over your body.
This is the reason Eddie Bravo took the Williams Guard aka London out of his system. However, this defence can be easily countered with a single leg.
What's even better is, providing you keep the position tight, your partner's movement sets up the position for you.
All you need to do is switch your grip at the right time.
Let's get into the plan
Speed Drill #1: Williams Guard Side to Switch (2 min ea)
Technical Drill #1: Countering the Set Over (3 min ea)
Specific Training #1: Single Leg on knees (reset when you sweep or lose position, 3 min ea)
Specific Training #2: Williams Guard (reset when you sweep, submit, or lose position, 3 min ea)
Practice getting to Williams Guard and fighting from there
More Drills you can use:
Speed Drill #1: Closed Guard Armbar (1 min ea)
Speed Drill #2: Closed Triangle (1 min ea)
Speed Drill #3: Williams Guard Side to Switch (1 min ea)
Flow Drill #1: Closed Guard --> Williams Guard --> Opp. posts on the ground --> Triangle (3 min alternating)
Flow Drill #2: Closed Guard --> Williams Guard --> Opp. posts on the bicep --> Arm Bar (3 min alternating)
Flow Drill #3: Closed Guard --> Williams Guard --> Opp. Steps Over --> Single Leg (3 min alternating)
Specific Training #1: Williams Guard (reset when you sweep, submit, or lose position, 3 min ea)
Practice getting to Williams Guard and fighting from there
